A bomb has reportedly exploded inside the bedroom of an Imam of a mosque at a house in Madaripur Sadar Upazila, police say.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
The explosion blew away the tin walls of the room, causing panic among local residents.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Tuesday at the Al-Aksha Akon residence in the Hogolpatia area of Jhaudi Union in the Upazila, said Abul Kalam Azad, chief of Madaripur Sadar Police Station.
According to police and witnesses, the mosque’s Imam has been undergoing treatment in Dhaka after falling ill five days ago. As a result, he has not been staying at the mosque. The key to the room where the Imam stays is reportedly kept by the mosque committee, including the Muazzin.
However, police could not immediately provide specific information about who had placed the bomb inside the room.
Officer Abul Kalam said the explosion damaged the tin walls of the room, but no one was injured. “The incident is being investigated. Efforts are under way to determine the actual cause of the explosion and identify those involved in placing the bomb,” he said.
