Two people have died from electrocution after touching a live wire in Phulpur Upazila Mymensingh, according to police.

The incident occurred around 2:15pm on Friday in Bhatta village of Ruposhi Union, said Phulpur Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Abul Bashar.

The victims are Tajuddin, 40, son of Shukkur Ali, and Arshab Ali, 60, son of Mia Hossain. Both were locals.

Tajuddin was drying hay next to his house before the accident.

An electric wire torn by the storm was buried under the hay and he did not see it.

At one stage, he inadvertently touched the wire and fell to the ground from the shock.

Arshab immediately noticed the situation and tried to rescue him.

In the process, he was also electrocuted and seriously injured.

Locals took them to Phulpur Upazila Health Complex, where both were declared dead before arrival.

SI Bashar said the bodies were later taken to the police station.

Legal measures will be taken based on the complaints of their relatives, he said.

Govt Employee Electrocuted In Rajbari

An employee of the Bangladesh Safe Food Authority (BSFA), who was injured when she was electrocuted while lowering the national flag at her office in Rajbari, has succumbed to her injuries.

She died on Friday morning while being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The deceased was identified as Monira Khatun, 30, the daughter of Abdur Razzak of Sadar Upazila’s Kolarhat.

She was an office assistant at the BSFA’s district office, said its head Md Asifur Rahman.

As she was lowering the flag on Sunday afternoon, the flag pole fell on a power transmission line, said Asifur.

Because the pole was made of steel, Monira was instantly electrocuted and suffered burn injuries.

She was later rescued and taken to the Rajbari District Sadar Hospital, from where she was immediately referred to the DMCH as her condition was worsening, said Asifur.

Preparations are under way to bring her body back to Rajbari.
