The written examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers in government primary schools has been rescheduled, with authorities shifting the test from the morning to the afternoon on Friday, Jan 9.

Under the revised arrangement, the examination will now take place from 3pm to 4:30pm, instead of the previously announced 10am to 11am slot.

The change was confirmed on Sunday by Rajib Kumar Sarkar, deputy secretary at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

“The written exams will be held from 3pm to 4:30pm on Jan 9,” he told bdnews24.com.

“The test will be conducted simultaneously in all districts of the country except the three hill districts. A letter to this effect has been sent to the Directorate of Primary Education.”

The exam was earlier deferred from Jan 2 to Jan 9 following the declaration of state mourning over the death of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia on Dec 30.

Recruitment for assistant teacher posts is being carried out in two phases.

In the first phase, advertisements were published on Nov 5 for 10,219 posts in schools across the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions. The second phase followed on Nov 12, with 4,166 posts announced for schools in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.

Although the recruitment notices were issued in two stages, the written examination for assistant teacher appointments in government primary schools across 61 districts in all eight divisions will be held simultaneously on the afternoon of Jan 9.
