The crowd present in front of the High Court has been seen bursting into jubilation after the death sentence was handed down to Sheikh Hasina for committing crimes against humanity in trying to suppress the July Uprising.
They embraced immediately after the verdict was announced on Monday.
A group of students and people gathering under the banner “Mancha 24” were seen expressing their jubilation by prostrating themselves and offering prayers in front of the High Court.
Afterwards, Mancha 24 Convenor Fahim Farooqui, said in a prayer: "O Allah, the master of the throne, protect our Bangladesh with the touch of mercy."
"Allah here stand those who had been disappeared, whose beautiful youth was been cut off from their lives. For the time that Sheikh Hasina has stolen from our lives, let her hang in front of the people and give her the punishment of hell."
He said, "O Allah, the scholars who have been tortured and slaughtered like animals on this land -- Allah, you have seen them. But, at the end of the day, you have given us victory. Those who are still guilty, Allah, hang each of them from the noose.
"Give us the ability to ensure justice for July on this land. May all the murders be tried on this land. Let no one in the world take possession of even a single inch of this state."
In the immediate reaction after the verdict, Lt Col (retd) Hasinur Rahman, who is also part of the platform, said: "I cannot explain our excitement. Thank Allah, we have got justice. I will not find peace until this judgment is implemented, but I am still smiling."
"The only mastermind of this revolution is the Almighty Allah. He has given us justice. We all thanked Him with our prostration."
Expressing the hope that Hasina will be brought back to the country with the legal support of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, Hasinur said: "The help of the Indian people is necessary to bring her back. The Indian people will help us, In Sha Allah, the people of West Bengal will help us. We will get justice.
"If we don't, we will give shelter to Indian terrorists. India will not be at peace."
