Security officials at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport have confiscated euros and British pounds worth over Tk 2.5 million from a passenger's luggage.
The incident was confirmed by Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, assistant director (public relations) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, or CAAB.
Citing Aviation Security, or AVSEC, Kawsar said that the passenger was checking in for a US-Bangla Airlines flight around 8:15am on Wednesday. During the security scans at check-in Row C, an official spotted something that looked like money in the luggage.
The bag was then opened in front of the airport's security officers, as well as scanners, customs officials, and airline representatives. Inside the bag, they found 17,950 euros and 1,370 pounds — roughly worth Tk 2.53 million.
Although the passenger was not detained, the confiscated funds have been deposited at the Dhaka Customs House, said the CAAB spokesman.
