Meherpur, Feb 4 (bdnews24.com) – A joint Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police team has arrest four members of an outlawed organisation at Gangni Upazila in Meherpur while they were holding a secret meeting.
The alleged members of the outlawed gang, identified as Munnaf Hossain, 22, of Deveipur village; Milon Hossan, 21, of Ramnagar village of Gangni Upazila in Meherpur; Alamagir Hossain, 30, of Mathurapur village; and Nazrul Islam, 25, of Taragunia village of Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia, are the leaders of outlawed Bipplobi Communist Party (BCP).
Assistant superintendent of police Sheikh Jahidul Islam, commander of RAB-6 Gangni camp in Meherpur, told bdnews24.com that acting on a tip off that a group from the outlawed organisation were holding a clandestine meeting at a jackfruit orchard at Ramnagar village in Gangni Upazila, he led a joint team of Rab-6 Meherpur and Gangni police on a special raid around 2.30am on Friday.
The joint team surrounded the outlawed men but were only able to arrest four from the spot while the remaining members managed to escape.
They also recovered an Indian pipe gun, two light guns, 13 active bombs and a sharp weapon from the spot.
Gangni police chief Motiar Rahman told bdnews24.com that the outlawed BCP members have several cases filed against them for alleged involvement in some robberies, snatching, extortion and bomb attacks in Gangni Upazila in Meherpur and Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia.
