National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has demanded a trial for the political parties involved in the genocide during the 1971 Liberation War.
He made the call at an NCP-organised media briefing on Monday at the Shaheed Abu Sayed Convention Centre, providing the latest update on the two-day-long interviews of the newly-registered party’s aspiring nominees.
He said, "Efforts are under way to take the administration under a party by threatening it. We will raise the question there as Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death and we held a mass procession demanding the trial of the Awami League as a party.
“Was there no genocide in Bangladesh in 1971? Many parties were responsible for the genocide. Just as we are demanding the trial of the Awami League as a party for the 2024 massacre, we are also demanding the trial of the parties involved in the genocide of 1971. We cannot be one-sided."
In response to a statement made by a BNP candidate over a NCP leader’s lineage, Nasiurddin said: "A BNP candidate in Debidwar commented on Hasnat Abdullah’s descent. Those whose line is marked by extortion, terrorism, and corruption ask us about our lineage. To clearly inform them of our lineage, I state: We want a lineage of reform in Bangladesh.
"We wanted to highlight the democratic process through a transparent procedure. We have seen that if someone signs in at Maghbazar or Gulshan, their seat is confirmed. Here, people from the lower-middle class to the upper class have applied and exchanged views with us."
NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara said, "We have found many people whom the public can vote for with joy."
