The police top brass has directed law enforcement personnel to be on high alert and raise the number of checkposts throughout the country.

“There aren’t any fears of an incident in the Bangladesh like the bomb blasts in Sri Lanka. But we are increasing our surveillance and security measures over Shab-e-Barat and Easter Sunday,” Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police headquarters, told bdnews24.com on Sunday.

The increased security measures will form part of the police’s ‘routine work’ in an effort to prevent any ‘unsavoury incidents’ from occurring, he said.

On Sunday, bombs exploded within the space of 15 minutes from 8:30 am to 8:45 am in three churches and three five star hotels in Sri Lanka during the special prayers on Easter Day.

At least 138 people were killed and more than 400 others injured in the incidents, reports Reuters.

Later, two more blasts were reported by the international media.
