Fire at City Park building in Dhaka’s Mirpur-14 under control

Firefighters have tames the blaze in a building for around two and a half hours in Dhaka’s Mirpur weeks after over two dozen lives were lost in a similar incident.

Eighteen units brought the fire under control around 7:30pm on Sunday, Ershad Hossain, an official at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, told bdnews24.com.

The 10-storey building at Section-14’s Poolpar in the northern area of the capital is known as City Park Bhaban as it houses City Park Chinese Restaurant and Convention Centre on its first and second floor.

Some shops are situated on the ground floor while some of the upper floors are used as warehouses of a garment factory, according an official at Kafrul Police Station.

Smoke was seen billowing from the fifth and sixth floors.

No casualties were reported immediately.

The building was supposed to be empty as Sunday is a public holiday on the occasion of Bangla New Year – Pahela Baishakh.
