SP Harun told bdnews24.com on Sunday that he had received the letter on his transfer and would join his new workplace on Monday.

SP Harun had made headlines a few years ago for beating up BNP's former chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque during a demonstration in front of the parliament building.

The BNP had lodged complaints against Harun when he had been working in Gazipur during local government elections. The government had withdrawn him only to reinstate him later on.

He was working in Dhaka Metropolitan Police as a deputy commissioner after the government withdrew him from Gazipur in August after the city corporation elections.

The BNP objected to his posting this time again ahead of the general election.

He has replaced SP Anisur Rahman who was withdrawn from Narayanganj following EC orders on Nov 28.

The EC move followed a complaint filed by the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance which claimed it would not be possible for Anisur to work without bias during the parliamentary polls as his wife Fatema Tuzzahura is an Awami League MP from a seat reserved for women.

“The Narayanganj SP, whose wife is an MP, has been replaced by Mr Harun. The situation is like out of the frying pan into the fire,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday.

Anisur has been transferred to Police Headquarters as an assistant inspector general.

The Public Security Division also promoted Deputy Inspector General Md Azad Mia of Barishal to additional inspector general and transferred him to Gazipur.

EC officials said the commission had no objection to the changes in police.
