The locals called the police who took the duo to the Khilkhet Police Station and later handed them to the Chinese embassy officials on Monday night.

Roy has filed a general diary at the police station over the incident.

The actor told bdnews24.com that he has two foreign and six local dogs at his home in the neighbourhood.

He and other residents look after the six local dogs that roam freely in the area, according to Roy.

The two Chinese citizens lured one of the dogs into their home on road no. 6 around 2:30pm, Roy said.

“I’ve heard from others that they (Chinese nationals) strangled the dog and prepared it for barbecue after skinning it,” he said.

“Later, the locals called the police and the law enforcers took the Chinese nationals to the police station,” he added.

Khilkhet Police Station OC Mostazirul Rahman told bdnews24.com that the two Chinese nationals do not speak either English or Bangla.

Later, they told the police through interpreters that they came to Bangladesh three months ago and were not aware of the social norms that prohibit eating dog meat, let alone a pet one’s.

“They apologised and agreed to pay compensation,” the OC said.
