SA Group boss Shahabuddin arrested on bank loan fraud charges

SA Group’s owner Shahabuddin Alam has landed in jail pending trial on charges of forgery in taking bank loans.

Police’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested the businessman in Dhaka on Wednesday in a case started by Bank Asia at Chattogram’s Financial Loan Court last year, CID Special SP Molla Nazrul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashrafuzzaman Ansari ordered Shahabuddin into jail when police produced the SA Group managing director in the court.

No lawyer represented Shahabuddin, who is also a director of the Mercantile Bank, according to court police’s General Recording Officer SI Sheikh Rakibur Rahman.

SA Group’s businesses range from oil refining to food and dairy products, drinks, cement and power.

Its famous products include Goalini Condensed Milk, powdered milk, Muskan Drinking Water, soybean oil, ghee, and flour.
