The rumours sparked violent clashes between the student protesters and Awami League activists in front of the party president’s offices in Dhanmondi on Saturday and the clashes lasted several hours.

Later in the evening, some AL activists spoke to the students and asked them to visit the party president’s offices.

Some protesters escorted by the police checked out the entire building. The students then held an instant news briefing there.

“Some people suddenly came after midday prayers and said four girls and several boys were confined to the Awami League president’s office. Later, some of us marched toward the Awami League office,” said Kazi Ashikur Rahman Turjo, a student of Dhaka Ideal College.

“But we found nothing in the Awami League’s office.”

Emerging from the news briefing, Turjo told the protesters that the information about confinement was a rumour. “Never pay heed to the rumours.”
