Former minister Kalparanjan Chakma dies at 100

Kalparanjan Chakma, an Awami League leader and the first minister of Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry, has died at the age of 100 in a Dhaka hospital.

Kalparanjan breathed his last at Dhaka Community Medical College Hospital at Moghbazar on Wednesday, said his niece Hashi Chakma.  
 
Kalparanjan was the former president of the Khagrachhari district wing of Awami League and two-times elected parliament member from Chattogram. 
 
He had been suffering from old-age complications and was receiving treatment for a leg injury in the plastic surgery department, supervised by his doctor Tanvir Ahmed.
 
He became the minister of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry in 1998, a year after the CHT Peace Accord.
