Abul Hossain, 25, had confessed his alleged involvement in the murders of 16-year-old Sukolpi Tripura and 13-year-old Chhobi Rani Tripura, police said.

Hossain and his accomplices allegedly hanged the two after Sukolpi refused his romantic advances.

Police recovered the two hanging bodies around noon on Friday. They later detained Hossain from the upazila’s Mahdebpur area.

Shampa Rani Saha, addition superintendent of Sitakunda circle of Chittagong District Police, told bdnews24.com that Hossain had pursued a romantic relationship with Sukolpi and she refused him.

“An arbitrator was called over the incident and Abul was punished. He confessed to police that he committed the murder as revenge over the incident.”

Sukolpi was the main target, while Chobi Rani was killed because she witnessed Sukolpi’s murder, said Saha.

Sukolpi’s father, Punel Kumar Tripura, has filed a murder case with Sitakunda Police Station over the incident.
