MP AKM Maidul Islam dies at 75

Member of Parliament AKM Maidul Islam has died of lung complications under treatment at a Dhaka hospital.

Industrialist Maidul, 75, was elected six times as an MP from the Kurigram-3 constituency and member of the cabinet during Ziaur Rahman and HM Ershad rules.

His younger brother Tanvirul Islam told bdnews24.com that he died around 11:40pm on Thursday at the United Hospital.

President Abdul Hamid has expressed his deep condolence to the MP’s death, and prayed for the departed soul, and sympathised with the bereaved family.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also wrote a condolence message.

Namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Asadgate mosque after jumma prayers. His body will be flown to Kurigram’s Ulipur on Saturday. 

He will be buried at the Banani graveyard after namaz-e-janaza at the South Plaza of the National Parliament and Gulshan mosque on Sunday.

He joined Ziaur Rahman’s cabinet in 1979 and Ershad’s cabinet in 1985.
