The victim, ‘Rosina’, 21, was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation or Pongu Hospital after the accident that occurred in Chairmanbarhi footbridge area around 9pm on Friday, police said.

Rosina works as a house help. Her employer journalist Syed Ishtiaque Reza told bdnews24.com her right leg was cut off from the thigh.

He said Rosina suffered the tragedy when she was returning to his home at Niketon in Gulshan from one of her relative’s house in Mohakhali.

Banani Police Station OC Forman Ali said a BRTC double-decker bus hit Rosina when she was crossing the street.

Police detained ‘Shafiqul’, the driver of the bus, which was heading towards Kakoli from Mohakhali, the police officer said.

The mishap comes four days after the death of student, Rajib Hossain, who was undergoing treatment after losing an arm in a race between two buses that involved a BRTC double-decker in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar on Apr 3.

Rajib's tragedy moved the nation, prompting authorities to strengthen drives to control reckless bus driving in the capital.

Sometime after the Banani accident, a truck ran over and killed a woman who was taking a rickshaw ride in Dhanmondi.

The deceased, ‘Masuda’, 36, was a nurse at SPRC Hospital in Eskaton.

Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared her dead when she was brought to the hospital around 11:50pm, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia at the police camp there told bdnews24.com.

Quoting her relatives, Bachchu said Masuda was on her way to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhanmondi to visit a relative admitted there.
