Joly Talukder and six others released on interim bail

The High Court has granted interim bail to RMG workers’ leader Joly Talukder and six others in a case over vandalism at BGMEA building.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on a defendants’ petition on Thursday.

Joly Talukder is the general secretary at Garment Workers' Trade Union Centre or GWTUC.

The rest six are GWTUC Organising Secretary KM Mintu, International Affairs Secretary Monjur Moyeen, Central Member Md Shahjahan, General Secretary at GWTUC Gazipur unit, Lutfor Rahman, president of Savar Ashulia unit of GWTUC, and Sajedur Rahman Shamim, central committee leader at Communist Party of Bangladesh or CPB.

On Jan 31, a clash erupted between BGMEA staffers and RMG workers when the latter arrived outside the headquarters of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association demanding payment of arrears.

BGMEA Additional Secretary Rafiqul Islam started the case against some 150 people alleging them of vandalism and attempted murders.

Twelve were named among those accused.
