Suspected robber killed in alleged shootout with RAB in Dhaka

A suspected robber has been killed while another was detained with bullet wounds in an alleged shootout with the Rapid Action Battalion or RAB in Dhaka’s Gabtoli.

A RAB-10 team conducted the operation near the Madhumoti Hotel in Gabtoli area around 4am on Tuesday, said Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam from Darus Salam Police Station.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Badshah Mia. He, along with his accomplice, was named in several complaints, RAB said.

Another suspected robber, Hanif, was detained on the scene with bullet woundsand admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A checkpoint has been set up in front of Madhumoti Hotel based on a top that a gang was robbign trucks along the route, RAB-10 Additional DIG of Police Shahabuddin Khan told bdnews24.com.

“RAB signalled a truck to stop. But the order was ignored and those inside opened fire on the team. A gunfight ensued after RAB retaliated.”

Badshah died on the spot while Hanif was suffered bullet wounds, said DIG Khan.

The officials impounded the truck and are conducting an investigation.

Several firearms, including a shotgun, were recovered after the incident, said Mohiuddin Faruk, additional police super of RAB.
