Police have neutralised in controlled explosions two bombs reportedly planted by a young man at a shopping mall in Dhaka’s Badda.
Witnesses said he fled after placing a bag on the staircase of Tanha Plaza at Gudaraghat on Gulshan-Badda Link Road around 12pm on Monday.
Before fleeing, he told people at the scene there were bombs in the bag, the witnesses said.
On being informed, a bomb disposal unit of the police visited the scene and found two improvised explosive devices or IEDs.
Badda Police Station Inspector Nazrul Islam told bdnews24.com they first thought it was a prank, but the bomb disposal unit later confirmed there were indeed bombs in that bag.
He said the IEDs were neutralised at the scene around 5pm.
He also said they would check CCTV camera footage of the area to identify the man who had planted the bombs.
