App for auto-rickshaw ride in Chittagong

moverBD Private Limited is introducing a mobile application-based auto-rickshaw ride sharing in Chittagong.

Managing Director of moverBD K M Arafatur Shaheen said the service will be inaugurated as a test case on Mar 26.

“We are the first one to introduce auto-rickshaw ride sharing service in Chittagong,” he told bdnews24.com.

“We want to begin with one thousand auto-rickshaw drivers having smart phones. We are working to inaugurate the service with 200 drivers on Mar 26 as a test case,” he added.

The officials of moverBD held a meeting with the leaders of Auto-rickshaw Auto-tempo Workers’ Union on Tuesday.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between both parties to introduce the service. 

“We are committed to offer our service to general people realising the importance of ride sharing and in solidarity with new policies of the government,” said Kamal Uddin, president of the workers’ union.

Md Imran Hossain, line manager of the workers’ union told bdnews24.com that drivers are interested on providing the service but some of them do not know how to use a smartphone and some cannot afford.

“The drivers want to be trained on using smartphone and application. We also discussed the issue of fare. We are moving forward positively for this ride sharing service,” he said.

Imran also said finalisation of fare and other issues are under discussion. 

The managing director of moverBD informed they proposed the fare to be Tk 40 for initial two kilometres and following kilometres to be charged Tk 12 each according to the government policy.

“Waiting charge is proposed to be Tk 2 per minute and discussion is on to include pick-up charge within it,” he said.
