The Bangladesh embassy said in a statement that Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will jointly inaugurate the Chair with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai on Thursday.

Ali will also hold bilateral talks with Pramudwinai after the inauguration ceremony.

An agreement on exemption of visa for the holders of diplomatic passports is also expected to be signed.

The ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ is a PhD level doctoral fellowship endowed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the AIT for research on the contemporary topic of ‘Sustainable and Integrated Smart Energy Modelling’ in the context of Bangladesh and other developing countries.

"The Chair has been named after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as an effort of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok to permanently preserve his footprints in Thailand," the embassy statement reads.

Foreign Minister Ali will also call on Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and scheduled to attend the ‘Bangabandhu Lecture’ at AIT.

At this occasion he will unveil the Thai translation of the historic 7th March speech by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will accompany the foreign minister during the inauguration.
