The public administration ministry issued the order late Wednesday, but has not said who will be replacing him.

A Bangladesh Army major general told bdnews24.com that 56-year-old Hossain is set to retire in mid-March.

Commissioned in 1981, Hossain took charge of the Border Guard Bangladesh or BGB as its director general in November 2016.

Prior to his job with the border force, he served as the military secretary to the president.

Before the Bangabhaban assignment, he served the Army Headquarters as the engineer-in-chief.

He was also the commandant at the Military Institute of Science and Technology or MIST and the Bangladesh Ordnance Factory.

A civil engineering graduate from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology or BUET, Hossain was also the chief engineer of the Dhaka City Corporation.

He served in different engineers’ battalions, including commanding 17 Engineers’ Construction Battalion and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion in Kuwait.
