Five of a family burnt as Dhaka flat catches fire from stove

Five members of a family, including a child, have suffered burn injuries when their flat in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur caught fire.

The victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital or DMCH around 10pm on Wednesday, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia at the police camp there told bdnews24.com.

Quoting the victims, he said their flat on the third floor of a five-storey building on road no. 2 in the neighbourhood caught fire from a gas stove around 9pm  

The victims are Md Abdul Malek, 35, his wife Rina Begum, 30, their 11-month-old daughter Afrida Akter Fatema, Rina’s sister Arju Begum, 28, and Arju’s husband Nazrul Islam.

Bachchu said Malek and Nazrul took first-aid while their wives and the baby were admitted to the burns unit.

Quoting doctors, he said Fatema and Arju were in critical condition with 47 percent and 85 percent of their skins burnt.

Mirpur Police Station Inspector Wahiduzzaman told bdnews24.com they were not aware of the incident. “We are checking it now,” he added.
