Among the convicts, Tipu alias Hira is behind bars while Ramzan Ali is at large.

Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder of Dhaka’s Fourth Speedy Trial Tribunal announced the verdict on Monday.

The case dates back to 2011 when Khalilur was shot dead at his home in Dhaka’s Shah Alibag Janata Housing.

The killing stemmed from a dispute over funds for the association, according to the case dossier.

Khalilur’s wife Hasina Parvin started the case against 10 people at Mirpur Model Police Station.

The court jailed four other convicts for life and fined each with Tk 20,000. They will have to spend one more year in jail if they fail to pay the fine.

The four convicts are Minhaz, Md Shaheed Mostafa, Jahidul Islam Jahid and Hasanur Rahman Rubel.  Hasanur is on the run.

Four other suspects have been acquitted of the charges.

Judge Abdur Rahman came down hard on Investigation Officer Nibaran Chandra Barman, a former inspector at Mirpur Police Station, for filing a chargesheet “containing errors”.

He has ordered the inspector general of police and the DB joint commissioner to take necessary action against the officer.
