The suspect arrested after being injured in an explosion that rocked New York's Port Authority, one of the city's busiest commuter hubs, is originally from Bangladesh, according to the local and international media.
New York Times reports police have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah of Bangladeshi origin.
He is in serious condition at Bellevue Hospital Center.
The local media have published a photo of the bearded suspect lying on the ground with burn injuries on his belly.
The suspect has been in the United States for seven years and has an address in Brooklyn, ABC News said.
New York Post reported quoting sources in the police that the suspect had wires attached to him and a 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack strapped to his midsection.
