Judicial Magistrate Mir Showkat Hossain granted his bail petition on a bond of Tk 5,000 on Tuesday, said Sharif’s lawyer Russel Mahmud Manna.

Sharif and Lakshmipur Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaikh Murshidul Islam engaged in an argument on Monday over entry into the schoolyard at Kakoli Shishu School at the Lakshmipur DC colony, which is under the supervision of the district administration.

Sadar Upazila UNO Md Nooruzzaman set up a mobile court immediately after the incident and penalised Sharif.

Lakshmipur Bangladesh Medical Association President Ashfaqur Rahman protested the mobile court’s decision and described it as a result of “personal dispute.”

He announced that medical workers would go on strike if Sharif was not released by 12pm on Tuesday.

Soon after Sharif’s release at 12:15pm on Tuesday, local doctors took him to the civil surgeon headquarters.

“I call for action against harassments of senior physicians and I call on the authorities to stop such malpractices going on under the label of ‘mobile court’,” Sharif told journalists.
