If death had not come too soon, Annisul Huq could have gone down in history as the most successful mayor of the Dhaka North​ City Corporation.

Just two years into the job, he brought in a lot of changes in this overpopulated and trouble-infested city.

Initially, he was known as a TV presenter to the people as he had a riveting presentation skill.

In his later years, his skills in business started to show.

He headed the apex trade body FBCCI after helming BGMEA.

He had gained the people's confidence and support, but his life was cut short by a disease with which he fought for the around four months and lost on Thursday.

On March 3, 2015, Annisul Huq filed his nomination papers as Dhaka North mayoral candidate of the Awami League.​

With wife Rubana Huq by his side, Annisul announced his election manifesto promising to build a 'smart' Dhaka on Mar 11, 2015.

Ahead of hitting the campaign trail, flanked by Awami League leaders, he placed a wreath at the Martyrs Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur.​

​He encouraged the city corporation workers by joining the cleanliness programme with a group of celebraties.

 

"I am a businessman, but I am here to act like a gangster," he told reporters at a Meet-the-Press event following a eviction drive four months after taking the mayoral office.

​Addressing a meeting organised on his second anniversary as mayor, he urged the citizens to be at his side to build a 'different' Dhaka.
