The law enforcers detained a woman, identified as Minara Begum, 30, for questioning in conection with the seizure at Chandrakona Bazar on Thursday night.

Sherpur district's Additional Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam said they conducted an anti-terrorism drive on a shop in the market around 9pm.

"We've seized 18 containers with a total of 540 litres. The label on the containers read '50% hydrogen peroxide'. A team of specialists from Dhaka will examine the chemicals in the morning."

SP Rafiqul Hasan Gani told reporters that the Police Headquarters informed the local police that the shop might have been used for militant activities.

Aminul said hydrogen peroxide is used to make explosives.

"Maybe these were stored to carry out violence during recent Durga Puja. But intelligence activities halted the attacks. Now, there might have been other plans to use the chemicals," he added.
