The High Court has pulled up the sports ministry and the Bangladesh Cricket Board or BCB after hearing a petition, which sought freezes on the functions of the existing committee of the cricketing authority.

On Sunday, it issued a rule asking why it would not order the BCB directors' body to stop functioning.

The sports secretary and seven BCB directors, including its president, have been ordered to come up with explanations.

The petition filed by former BCB director Mubasshar Hossain also sought to halt the cricket body's annual and extraordinary general meetings, scheduled for Oct 2.

But there are no bars on holding the meetings as the court has not stayed the committee's functions, said lawyers.

The plea followed legal complications over a five-year-old letter by the National Sports Council or NSC that sought changes to the BCB's charter.
