Ghatail Upazila administration on Thursday imposed Section 144 of the CrPC banning public gathering to avert unpleasant incidents.

The decision to impose the ban was taken after Rana’s supporters and the rival faction led by Ghatail Upazila unit Awami League chief Shahidul Islam Lebu announced simultaneous programmes.

They vandalised houses of rival leaders on Wednesday night after police submitted the chargesheet in the murder case.

Ghatail Police Station OC Kamal Hossain said additional force have been deployed as the tension hanged over the town on Thursday morning.

In the afternoon, Lebu’s followers marched and announced a rally demanding release of four supporters arrested over Wednesday’s violence.

Rana’s supporters then announced another rally.

Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed was shot dead by assailants in front of his residence in College Parha on Jan 18, 2013.

Rana, his brothers former Tangail MP Shahidur Rahman Khan, businessman Jahidur Rahman Khan Kankan and former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Sanyat Khan Bappa have been named in the case.
