Former BTRC vice chairman Giasuddin Ahmed succumbs to pneumonia

Former civil servant and freedom fighter, Giasuddin Ahmed who served as BTRC vice chairman from Sept 2012 to July 2014, died on Sunday night, his family said. He was 67.

His daughter, Nahid Ahmed, informed bdnews24.com of his demise, naming pneumonia as the cause. He died at 9pm at the CMH in Dhaka.

Nahid Ahmed is a Deputy General Manager at Grameenphone.

Ahmed was a freedom fighter and a former secretary to the government.

His two sons, both diplomats, are posted abroad.

His older son Nayem Uddin Ahmed is a political counsellor at the Bangladesh embassy in Washington DC, while the younger, Ishtiak Uddin Ahmed, is the Second Secretary at the Bangladesh embassy in the Netherlands.

His youngest daughter Nahid is currently in Washington DC, visiting her brother. His other daughter Nigar Ahmed is based in Australia.

His brother-in-law Nizamuddin Mahmud said his Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at the field next to Tejgaon Elenbarhi Government Staff Quarter mosque on Tuesday.

He will be buried at his village in Feni’s Fulgazi on Wednesday, Mahmud said.
