Faridpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Kamruzzaman Selim is heading the three-strong inquiry committee.

The other members of the panel are Additional Superintendent of Police Md Kamruzzaman, and Sadar Upazila Land Office Surveyor Khalilur Rahman.

Selim told bdnews24.com on Thursday he received orders on Aug 17 asking them to submit a report in five working days.

Faridpur’s acting Deputy Commissioner Md Abdur Rashid said the district administration took up the matter when Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council General Secretary Rana Dasgupta made the allegation in a press conference in Dhaka on Aug 6.

“We’ve asked the investigation committee to check the authenticity of his allegations,” Rashid said.

The Council in the media call accused some ruling Awami League MP and the Cabinet minister of forcibly occupying lands and homes of people from the religious minorities through intimidation.

It cited specific instances of alleged grabbing of properties and eviction by Minister Hossain, Parliament Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, and Thakurgaon MP Dabirul Islam and Pirojpur lawmaker AKMA Awal.

After two days, Hossain termed the allegation ‘outright false’ and a ‘conspiracy’.
