Former secretary M Faizur Razzaque dies

Former secretary Muhammad Faizur Razzaque has died after battling cancer at the age of 71.

A member of the Civil Service of Pakistan, Razzaque served as energy secretary and Election Commission secretary in the 1990s in his 34-year career.

He died at Dhaka's United Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

His family said decision about his burial depended on his daughters' return from abroad.

Born in 1943 in Sunamganj, Razzaque studied economics at the Dhaka University and joined the civil service in 1966. He did his Masters at the Harvard University in 1978.

Razzaque also served as the managing director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, director general of Bangladesh Television and chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board.

He was Alternate Executive Director at the Manila-based Asian Development Bank as the Bangladesh government nominee before retiring from civil service in 2001.

Razzaque is survived by his wife, two daughters and two grandsons.
