The bench of Justices Quazi Reza-ul Hoque and Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman issued the notice on Sunday after receiving a report from Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka.
The institutions are – Viquarunnisa Noon School and College, Monipur High School, Alimuddin High School, Adarsha High School, Holy Cross Girls' High School, Mirpur Bangla School and College, Shaheed Smriti High School, Jannat Academy, Siddheswari Girls' High School, Motijheel Ideal School and College, The Child Laboratory School and Milestone College.
Also summoned were Dhaka Residential Model College, National Ideal College, RAJUK Uttara Model College, Haji Millat Ali Adarsha High School, Raihan College, Udayan Higher Secondary School, Anandamayee Girls' High School, Ahmed Bawany Academy, West End High School, Armanitola Government High School, Cambrian School and College, Government Laboratory High School, WICA School and Mohammadpur Higher Secondary School.
Taking a news report into cognisance, the bench had asked on Nov 10 why charging more than the fee fixed by the education board, would not be declared illegal.
Apart from ordering to stop taking additional fees from that day, the court also asked the education board to inform of steps taken in this regard.
The board formed an investigation committee that submitted a report recently.
The High Court bench's rule Sunday was based on that probe report.
Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy represented the state during the hearing.
Mahfuzur Rahman represented the guardians of students of Govindapur High School in Kishoreganj.
