Abdul Hamid was addressing the Darbar of PGR at Shaheed Captain Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of its 39th founding anniversary on Saturday.

"I hope you will remain loyal to the chain of command in discharging your duties and responsibilities and will help improve the standard of the regiment," the president said.

"Keep in your mind that any sacrifice in discharging your duties and responsibilities, bestowed upon you by the nation and country, will always be remembered in the nation's history," he said.

The duties of the regiment are gradually increasing, Hamid said.

The manpower of the regiment had already been increased to reduce the pressure, he added.

"I have a plan to strengthen the regiment. My attention as the president will remain focused on your welfare and development," he added.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded the PGR on July 5, 1975.
After establishment of the parliamentary system of government in 1991, the regiment was also assigned to the security of the head of the government.
“I have been closely observing the duties and responsibilities of the regiment since I assumed the office of the president. I am impressed by your dedication, awareness, discipline and most of all professionalism under all circumstances,” President Hamid said.
He expressed the hope that in future the regiment would become even more skiled and professional.
Later, the president signed the visitor's book and joined a photo session with PGR officials.
Army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, the PGR Commander and senior military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
