The Minister had sued them over reports they ran which he considered defamatory.
The case was filed with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court on May 22 against ‘Dhaka Times’ for a report they ran on May 17 and ‘Manobkantha’ for one of theirs on May 19.
‘Manobkantha’ Editor Shahjahan Sardar, publisher Zakaria Chowdhury and Dhaka Times Editor Arifur Rahman appeared at court in the morning and sought bail.
Judge Asaduzzaman Nur granted them bail, defence lawyer Anwarul Kabir Babul Haque said.
The petition said that the dailies spread ‘untrue information’ to deliberately defame the complainant politically and socially. It had dented the Minister’s reputation both at home and abroad.
Syed Rezaur Rahman represented complainant during hearing.
