The six-time Jamalpur MP and a cooperatives leader passes away at 74

Jamalpur, Nov 10 (bdnews24.com) — Former state minister for land and president of Bangladesh Krishak League Rashed Mosharraf has passed away.
A freedom fighter, Mosharraf was elected to the parliament from his Jamalpur constituency six times. He was noted for his leadership in cooperatives movement and served as president of the cooperatives federation.
Rashed Mosharraf's brother Khaled Mosharraf, who had led freedom fighters in 1971, was killed on Nov 7 in 1975.
His assassination is largely attributed to a procession led by Rashed Mosharraf and his mother in support of Khaled's bid for power during his short-lived coup following the killing of four national leaders on Nov 3 that year.
Rashed Mosharraf died at in Dhaka's Square Hospital around 6.55pm Thursday from brain haemorrhage.
He was 74. He left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter. Rashed Mosharraf's body has been kept at his Kalabagan residence.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep sorrow for the deceased. She recalled Mosharraf's contributions to the Liberation War and the nation's development.
Information minister Abul Kalam Azad, land minister Rezaul Karim Hira, whip Mirza Azam and other Awami League leaders expressed their deep shock at the death.
