Three get Bangla Academy Award

Dhaka, Feb 20 (bdnews24.com)—Poet Manzur-e-Moula has been named for the Bangla Academy Award in creative writing, one of the three categories for the 2007 literary award.
Next comes Jatin Sarker, who has been awarded for his research works.
The third recipient of the award, which is given in recognition of contributions to Bangla language and literature, is rhymer Lutfor Rahman Riton, popular for his contribution to children's literature.
Bangla Academy director general Syed Mohammad Shahed named the three for the awards Wednesday.
The awards will be handed over to the recipients on the Ekushey Book Fair main stage at 4pm on Feb 28.
Each of them will receive a medal and Tk 1 lakh. The monetary value of the award has been doubled to Tk 1 lakh from Tk 50,000.
Shahed said Bangla Academy had cut the number of awardees for 2007 to three to avoid controversy.
Six awards were given to as many people for 2006: Shamsul Islam (poetry), Haripada Dutta (novel), Ali Anwar (essays), Muhammad Ibrahim (science), Mannan Heera (drama) and Amirul Islam (children's literature).
