Zohra Begum Kazi dies at 97

Dr Zohra Begum Kazi, the first female doctor of the subcontinent, died from old-age complications in Gulshan Wednesday. She was 97.

Dhaka, Nov 8 (bdnews24.com) – Dr Zohra Begum Kazi, the first female doctor of the subcontinent, died from old-age complications in Gulshan Wednesday.
She was 97.
Zohra obtained her medical degree from Lady Harding Medical College in Delhi in 1935 and was awarded 'Viceroy Medal' for brilliant academic records.
She joined Dhaka Medical College Hospital as gynaecologist in 1947 and was the head of the department.
Zohra was involved with the Language Movement in 1952 and directly contributed to the Liberation War in 1971.
She was buried at Banani graveyard after a namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad mosque.
She was the daughter of Dr Kazi Sattar of Kaalkini upazila in Madaripur and the wife of late Raziuddin Bhuiyan, a former lawmaker from Narsingdi district.
