Jugantor editor, publisher get anticipatory bail in defamation case

The High Court Thursday granted anticipatory bails to Daily Jugantor editor Golam Sarwar, publisher Salma Islam and four others in a defamation suit filed by Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

Dhaka, August 17 (BDNEWS) – The High Court Thursday granted anticipatory bails to Daily Jugantor editor Golam Sarwar, publisher Salma Islam and four others in a defamation suit filed by Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Abdur Rashid and Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury passed the bail order.
Earlier, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman issued the arrest warrants against the six persons.
Two defamation cases were filed following publication of two reports in the Daily Jugantor on August 3. The reports were headlined 'Who is mafia don Shah Alam' and 'Social Investment Bank in the grip of Shah Alam: Embezzlement of crores of taka in false name.'
