Dhaka, April 5 (BDNEWS) – The Jana Sanghati Samity Wednesday blamed CHT Development Board Chairman Wadud Bhuiyan for the recent attacks on hilly people in Khagrachhari and demanded proper investigation into the incidents.
The PCJSS leaders placed the demand at an inter-ministerial meeting on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs at the LGRD & Cooperatives ministry Wednesday.
Presided over by LGRD & Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, it was attended, among others, by Law Minister Moudud Ahmed, Foreign Minister Morshed Khan, state minister for land Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, Whip Oahidul Alam, Parliamentary Standing Committee chairman Mosharraf Hossain, state minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Moni Swapan Dewan, Jana Sanghati Samity top leader and regional council member Sudhasindhu Khisa, Gautam Kumar Chakma, and KS Mong.
Meeting sources said that apart from having discussion on the implementation of the CHT peace accord, the tribal leaders expressed their resentment over the incidents of communal attacks in Khagrachhari.
They said the local tribal leaders had already decided to boycott BAISABI (Baisuk, Sangrai and Bijhu), a traditional festival to welcome the New Year, following the attacks on the hilly people in Khagrachhari.
They alleged that the local lawmaker and CHT Development Board Chairman Wadud Bhuiyan was the mastermind behind the incident.
They also said that following the instruction of Bhuiyan, the Bangalee settlers launched the attacks on three villages of the hilly people in collusion with the members of army and police.
In the past, several communal attacks were launched in the hill region intentionally just before BAISABI festival, they alleged.
The Jana Sanghati Samity leaders said the lands of the indigenous people are being encroached by creating such situation time and again. On the other hand, ruling party has been patronising the outsider Banglaees to augment their vote bank in the election.
They demanded compensation for the affected people and proper investigation into the incident.
