Sheikh Abdur Rashid has been appointed as the new cabinet secretary.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Tuesday, announcing his appointment for a two-year term.
Rashid, who is currently the senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, is set to officially assume his new role on Oct 14.
This decision comes amid a reshuffle in government positions following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led administration after a wave of mass protests.
Rashid, an official of 1982 Bangladesh Civil Service batch, had been appointed chairman of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation, or PKSF, on Aug 13, just six days after the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took office.
On Aug 17, just four days after his appointment as PKSF chairman, he was reinstated to the secretary rank in the Secondary and Higher Education Division, having previously completed his tenure as additional secretary during the Awami League administration.
Rashid will replace Md Mahbub Hossain, whose contract as cabinet secretary is coming to an end.
Mahbub was appointed to the position in January 2023 and was reappointed on a one-year contract on Oct 14 of the same year.
Mahbub, from the 1986 (8th) batch of the BCS (administration) cadre, joined the government service on Dec 20, 1989.
More than a dozen contractually appointed secretaries have been replaced in top government positions following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime on Aug 5.
