Sheikh Mohammad Maruf has stepped down as managing director of Dhaka Bank, ending his tenure after 10 and a half months, citing personal reasons.
He tendered his resignation to the bank’s Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker on Thursday.
Asked about the decision, Maruf said: “There’s no specific reason. I resigned purely for personal reasons. I’ll take a few days off, then decide what’s next.”
Maruf brushed off rumours that the board had pressured him to quit.
“No, nothing like that. I submitted the resignation on my own,” he said.
Chairman Abdul Hai said Maruf had failed to comply with several Bangladesh Bank regulations.
“We’ve received his resignation letter. The board will decide on this in Monday’s meeting,” he added.
Maruf joined Dhaka Bank on Oct 1, 2024.
Before that, he served as additional managing director at The City Bank.
