Workers return to TNZ Apparels after 23 days

Salaries and allowances were paid on Thursday evening following earlier protests

The TNZ Apparel factory in Gazipur has reopened after a 23-day shutdown triggered by worker unrest over unpaid wages and allowances.

Workers returned to their jobs on Saturday morning, said Bason Police Station chief Md Rahedul Islam.

As promised by the factory management and the labour ministry, all outstanding wages and allowances were cleared on Thursday evening, ensuring a peaceful reopening.

Rahedul said the atmosphere in the factories is calm, and there are no issues at present.

TNZ Apparels Ltd operates five factories in Gazipur’s Mogorkhal.

These facilities had been shut down amid repeated protests by workers demanding overdue payments.

Workers had staged multiple demonstrations, including blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for three consecutive days, from Nov 9 to Nov 11.

Following the payment on Thursday, a notice was issued informing workers that the factories would reopen on Saturday. Adhering to the instructions, workers returned to work as scheduled.

“We have no grievances now. Everyone has joined work sincerely. It feels like an Eid celebration among the workers today,” said worker Sharifa Begum, expressing gratitude to the factory owners and all concerned for restoring the work environment.

TNZ Apparel Executive Director Md Maksudul Rahman Chowdhury said, “There is no unrest within the factory, and employees are working cheerfully and with dedication in a peaceful environment.”

He thanked the labour ministry’s secretary, local administration, Border Guard Bangladesh, police, journalists, and others for their support in restoring normalcy at the factory.
