River Police have made passengers disembark from a bus that eventually fell into the river as it was attempting to board a ferry at the Daulatdia Ferry Terminal, according to a press release.
Bus passengers also said police had made the passengers get off the bus before it got on the pontoon at the ferry terminal. Because of the decision, no passenger was injured in the incident. The bus driver and his helper were later rescued from the river when the vehicle fell in.
A SB Super Deluxe Paribahan veered out of control from pontoon No. 7 at the terminal around 9:30am on Friday and fell into the river. The bus was going from Meherpur to Dhaka.
A press release from the River Police said that due to their timely alertness and quick action, more than 50 passengers “narrowly escaped a horrific bus accident at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Rajbari”.

The press release said, "On Friday morning, a long-distance bus carrying more than 50 passengers was approaching the pontoon of Daulatdia terminal to board a ferry. Before getting off the pontoon, members of the Daulatdia River Police Outpost on duty there stopped the bus and ordered the passengers to disembark quickly. After the passengers moved to a safe distance, the bus driver and helper tried to board the ferry on the vehicle when it suddenly veered out of control and fell directly from the pontoon into the Padma River.
“As soon as the bus fell into the river, members of the River Police on duty at the dock immediately started a rescue operation. Through their quick and courageous action, the bus driver and helper were rescued alive and admitted to a nearby hospital."
