A case has been filed over the crude bomb explosion at a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Savar, while police have formed a committee to investigate the incident.
No arrests have been made so far, police said.
Police Inspector (Investigation) Nur Mohammad said NCP Dhaka North District Member Secretary Salamat Ullah Rony filed the case under the Explosives Act with Savar Model Police Station late on Monday night.
The case names unidentified suspects.
The explosion occurred around 9:45pm on Monday during an NCP rally at the Tarapur Eidgah Ground in Savar, leaving three people injured.
NCP Convenor Nahid Islam and central party leaders were present at the rally.
Following the incident, Nahid and party activists went to Savar Model Police Station.
According to the case statement, a power outage occurred shortly after the party's central leaders arrived at the venue for the pre-announced "July March" rally. The programme later continued using a generator.
Shortly after the rally began, unidentified attackers reportedly hurled a crude bomb in front of the stage, injuring three party activists. They were taken to hospital for treatment.
Inspector Nur said police had formed a three-strong committee to investigate the incident.
He said Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen visited the site late at night following the blast at the NCP rally.
She later formed the committee, headed by Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Jahangir Alam, to ensure a proper investigation.
The committee's other members are Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) Rakibul Hasan Ishan and Inspector Nur.
The police superintendent told reporters at night that the investigation would look into why the power was cut during the rally and who was behind the explosion, adding that those involved would definitely be arrested.
Inspector Nur said an operation was under way to arrest those responsible.
