She will sit with the leaders of the Dr Kamal Hossain-led coalition at the Ganabhaban at 11am on Wednesday, according to Obaidul Quader.

The Awami League general secretary made the announcement after a meeting of the ruling 14-Party coalition at the prime minister’s residence on Sunday night.

“Oikya Front has sent a letter for talks again. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier said that her door is always open for talks. But no more talks can be held after Nov 7,” he said.

“Considering everything, we are holding talks with the Oikya Front on a limited scale,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Gono Forum Presidium Member Jaglul Haider Afrik carried Dr Kamal’s letter to Hasina seeking a second round of talks to “finish incomplete discussions”.

Hasina opened the series of pre-election dialogues through a meeting with the Oikya Front on its seven demands to make the general election free and fair last Thursday.

“In view of the seven points, further discussions may be held on a limited scale,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a leader of the Oikya Front and BNP secretary general, told reporters after a meeting of the alliance on Saturday.

“In the context of the talks, another letter will be sent to the prime minister tomorrow. As she said the dialogue will continue, we’re seeking a brief discussion,” he added.

The Oikya Front also wrote to the Election Commission to postpone the announcement of the election schedule until the prime minister completes her discussions with all political parties.

The commission on Sunday said it would announce the schedule on Thursday.

After the dialogue on Thursday, the Oikya Front said they found no specific solution to the issues they raised in the discussions with Hasina.

The Oikya Front’s demands include the release of jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia, election under a nonpartisan government dissolving parliament, deployment of the army during the polls and reforms to the EC.
