State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak received the 'Global ICT Excellence Award' at the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Mexico’s Guadalajara on Wednesday.

Bangladesh was awarded in the 'Public Sector Excellence' category, said an ICT ministry media release.

A committee of World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), comprising experts from 80 member-countries, selected the awardees in recognition of their innovative work in the information technology sector.

The awards are given for the Public Sector Excellence, Private Sector Excellence, Digital Opportunity, and Sustainable Growth categories every two years.

Earlier, on June 10, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) had awarded the Access to Information Project of the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office at the World Summit of the Information Society in Geneva.

The award was in recognition of the project’s role in taking technological services to people’s doorsteps.
