The Under-23 football team beat the SAFF Champions 1-0 at the Munhak Stadium in Incheon on Monday.

Bangladesh captain Mamunul Islam scored the winner in the 83rd minute.

The Afghans dominated the first half of the game, but Lodewijk de Kruif’s side kept their post secured thanks to the defenders.

Despite the 66 percent Afghan possession, Bangladesh made their way through the rival defence in the second half.

Bangladesh will face Uzbekistan on Sep 18 and Hong Kong on 22 in their Group B matches.

Two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals from the group.
